About me

I am a visual artist working in both 2D and 3D. I create abstract compositions that reflect on life experiences. I mostly work in oil and gouache, and I also work with locally salvaged timber. I am fascinated by the relationship between colour, texture, surface, materiality and space.

My background in design and my art education continue to influence the way I work. I am interested in colour, geometry, form, texture and material, and how these elements affect the way we see and experience something.

When I create, I think and reflect about the world, life and experiences. This inner dialogue becomes part of the work. I manipulate the surface and materials, often quite heavily. I build up multiple layers and work into them, leaving traces of earlier decisions. These layers become a record of the process and of time.

I work in series because it allows me to explore ideas over time. Each painting builds on what I have discovered in the previous one. I explore subtle changes in colour, form and surface, as well as balance, rhythm and spatial relationships.

Within each series, and across different series, I often return to recurring forms and geometric structures. At the same time, each series opens up new possibilities and leads me in a different direction.

My handcrafted timber pieces are an integral part of the work. I make them from locally salvaged wood, allowing the timber's grain, imperfections and traces of its previous life to remain visible. The wood brings another layer of material, history and time to each work.

My work does not tell a single story. I invite people to spend time with it and discover what it might mean to them, or what memories, feelings or experiences it might bring to mind.
